Using AR to supporting long term physical activity post stroke

Seeking a Business Advisor

Stroke is the third leading cause of disability worldwide, with five million people annually becoming permanently disabled. Recovery and rehabilitation of physical impairment following stroke is a significant challenge. Whilst community group based rehabilitation provides an accessible route to allow a large number of stroke survivors to gain access to physical activity based interventions, we know that stroke survivors fail to continue to be physically active in the longer term. As a result this reduces their quality of life, increases their risk of developing further disease and an overall cost increase to the National Health Service.

The aim of this project will be to develop and explore the use of augmented reality platforms to enhance physical activity opportunities and adherence for stroke survivors.

Using engaging and accessible technology to increase motivation to complete physical activity alongside increasing the opportunity for people to participate, has the potential to change the long term quality of life for stroke survivors.
